Heart
of America: A Journey Fourth
Jeffrey Byrne & Associates,
Inc. is proud to have partnered with Heart
of America: A Journey Fourth, to generate
underwriting for a three-day celebration
and commemoration of the Lewis & Clark
Bicentennial in America’s Heartland.
On July 4, 1804, Meriwether Lewis and William
Clark and the band of men who made up their
“Corps of Discovery” military
expedition, celebrated the first 4th of
July west of the Mississippi on the banks
of the Kansas River outside of Kansas City
with “a cannon shot from their keelboat
and a ‘extra gill’ of whiskey
per man.”
In July 2004, Heart of America: A Journey
Fourth became one of 15 “National
Signature Events” along the Lewis
& Clark trail that were part of the
national Lewis & Clark Bicentennial
commemoration. Staged in partnership with
the Kansas City Convention and Visitors
Association, the Mid-America Regional Council,
the Kansas City Port Authority and a host
of volunteers and civic groups from the
region, Kansas City’s Lewis &
Clark Bicentennial brought national attention
to the area with a weekend full of exhibits
and educational programs, a 40-foot keel
boat, a re-enactors’ camp and a 4th
of July closing ceremony that included the
Marine Corps Band, fireworks and a multi-media
“Toast to the Nation.”
Jeffrey Byrne & Associates is proud
to have helped Heart of America: A Journey
Fourth bring national attention to Kansas
City as it marked an important even in the
history of America’s Heartland.
